While autonomous delivery robots are rapidly becoming a common sight, DoorDash has deployed a unique machine that takes a completely different approach to neighborhood logistics.
The DoorDash delivery robot, officially named Dot, has been actively completing commercial takeout orders since late 2025. Unlike typical sidewalk rovers, this fully electric vehicle is specifically engineered to travel safely on public roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks at speeds up to 20 miles per hour. Developed internally by DoorDash Labs, the machine utilizes a sophisticated array of lidar, radar, and external cameras to navigate complex urban environments and avoid pedestrians.
When an order arrives at a residence, the customer simply uses their smartphone app to unlock the secure cargo compartment. The modular interior is capable of holding up to 30 pounds of goods, ensuring that food remains intact during transit. As the company continues to scale its autonomous delivery network across new markets, this distinct hardware is designed to handle high order volumes without increasing local traffic congestion or emissions.
