Building insulation is undoubtedly one of the major factors affecting Insulation
the energy efficiency of a building.

ENTECH is a leading supplier of energy efficiency
improvement products in Ireland which include Building insulation services.

What are the Types of Insulation in Buildings?
Building Insulation comes in many forms.
Broadly these can be classified as synthetic and natural insulation material.

What are the types of Synthetic Insulations?

Building construction use a variety of synthetic insulations manufactured from synthesized fossil fuel by products.

Some of these are:
  • Poly Urethane (PU) Foam – Used in sandwich panels in prefabricated buildings.
Can also be sprayed on depending on the application. Very good insulation material.
Can be sprayed in situ as well. Show good resistance to water permeability.
  • Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Foam- Used in sandwich panels in prefabricated buildings.
Can be sprayed on in situ.
It’s a very good insulation material but with a poor fire rating needing additional chemical
    treatment to improve it.
  • Poly Ethylene (PE) Foam etc.-Used mainly in pre insulated pipe.
It has good insulating properties and resistance to moisture permeability.
Natural Insulation materialNatural raw material based insulation is of mainly silica or plant cellulose material,
for example;.
  • Glass Wool- Raw material is sand and recycled bottles (Silica) drawn in to fibers incorporating a resin binder. Exhibit Good fire resistance.
  • Slag and Rock Wool –Raw material is naturally occurring rock silica drawn in to fibers.
  • Cotton – slabs of recycled Cotton waste fibers. Poor fire rating needs additional chemical treatment.
  • Cellulose Material – Is made of recycled news print and similar material. Poor fire rating needs additional
    chemical treatment.
How does Insulation save energy in a building?Building insulations help a comfortable living environment
to be maintained within the building.

What ever the material you use should necessarily provide the following benefits to you.
  • Insulations provide resistance to Solar and Transmission Heat Loads in the summer. In the winter the building insulation
prevents the loss of costly heating.
  • The Insulations would incorporate a barrier against the transfer of moisture to your building environment.
It will promote mold growth in the winter, add heat load and raise indoor humidity in the summer.
  • It should not only insulate your attic and out side walls but should encompass the total building envelope.
(It is however not necessary to insulate the floor as there is no significant loss or gain in heat in this area).
  • The insulation material should be durable and long lasting. This will make it more cost effective, create less disposal problems,
and in terms of energy of production, sustainable.
  • It should provide good sound insulating properties.
  • The insulation should provide a meaningful reduction in your annual energy costs.
Water Permeability Water permeability is an important factor in insulations.
The transfer of water molecules occur due to the difference in
partial pressure between the colder and hot sides of a wall.

Almost all synthetic insulation material show good resistance to water permeability.

In comparison natural insulation material which shows
continuous air gaps need special vapor (moisture) barrier linings.

This moisture causes;
  • Extra cooling or heating load leading to wastage of energy, excessive run of equipment and higher maintenance costs.
  • During winter promotes mold growth within the building, affects paint finishes etc.
The impervious linings may be of Aluminum Foil (with or without kraft paper backing)
synthetic films, liquid (bituminous, latex based etc) barriers. We at ENTECH can provide:
  • All Building Insulations listed above having High R value and may be used in any part of the building envelope.
  • Option of liquid, synthetic, Aluminum Foil and Kraft paper water vapor barriers in your building insulations..
  • Environmentally friendly material with low carbon foot print.
Our silica based Insulations are fire resistant without any chemical being added.
Optional synthetic and natural insulations with appropriate fire retardant treatment are available.
  • Our Insulations are resistant to rodents and vermin attack.
  • We offer Fiber Glass Wool and similar building insulations with good sound absorption properties.
  • We offer Insulations that are cost effective per unit thickness and unit area of coverage.
  • Free information on HES program and the incentives and grant it provide for retrofitting.
Obtaining the services of BER assessors at reasonable rates etc.
